Ambassador K.Toktogulov presented credentials to Governor General of Canada

Ambassador Kadyr Toktogulov was in Ottawa, Canada from March 21-24, 2016 to present his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Canada, with residence in Washington, DC.

The ceremony of presenting credentials to Governor General of Canada David Johnston took place on March 22, 2016.

During the presentation of credentials, the Governor General noted that Kyrgyzstan and Canada share a common commitment to democracy. “I also appreciate your country’s commitment to make this world better, in particular, through your recent election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Canada looks forward to closer cooperation on this issue, as well as on cooperation in education, in the continuation of the partnership between Seneca College and the University of Central Asia,” said David Johnston.

Kadyr Toktogulov elaborated on Kyrgyzstan’s interest in the development of full bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Canada in various fields, taking into account each other’s interests.

During the visit, on March 23 and 24, Ambassador K. Toktogulov conducted bilateral meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Stéphane Dion, Speaker of the House of Commons Geoff Regan, and Speaker of the Senate George Furey.

During these meetings, K. Toktogulov expressed the interest and readiness of Kyrgyzstan in building relations with Canada in the political, trade and economics, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.  He also discussed issues in Kyrgyzstan’s mining industry, including cooperation with Canadian companies in this strategic sector.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dion positively noted Kyrgyzstan’s democratic achievements, despite all the current challenges facing the country.  In the course of the meeting, K. Toktogulov told the head of the foreign ministry about the challenges, which a democratic Kyrgyzstan must overcome.

During the meeting with the speakers of the upper and lower houses of the Canadian Parliament, the main focus was given to the question of strengthening and developing inter-parliamentary cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Canada.
