During a working visit to Washington DC from February 1st to the 3rd, members of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic Gulkan Moldobekova (Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan) and Saidulla Nyshanov (Ata-Meken) participated in the 65th Annual National Prayer Breakfast, hosted by members of the United States Congress and attended by the President of the United States Donald Trump, Vice-President Mike Pence, and members of the government as well as parliamentarians, businessmen and religious representatives from more than 140 countries all over the world. The Kyrgyz Republic was also represented at the Breakfast by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United States and Canada Kadyr Toktogulov and Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations Mirgul Moldoisaeva.
Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh held a series of meetings with the leadership of the House Democracy Partnership of the US Congress, Congressmen Peter Roskam and David Price, to discuss inter-parliamentary Kyrgyz-American cooperation issues. US Congressmen expressed willingness to continue their support for the development of democracy and parliamentarism in Kyrgyzstan.
The National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly event that has been held since 1953 in Washington DC with the participation of the US President. It is on the first Thursday in February. The Breakfast is designed to be a forum for the political, social, and business elite to assemble and build relationships.
