On October 30, 2011 presidential elections were held in Kyrgyzstan and took place in accordance to applicable law. More than 2 million voters participated in the elections. These elections were an important political step after the people's revolution that took place in Kyrgyzstan in April of 2010, during which president Kurmanbek Bakiyev was removed.

The current President of Kyrgyzstan, Roza Otunbaeva, repeatedly stated that she intends to fully comply with the law, and not try to extend
her term, which ends on 31 December 2011. Thus, for the first time in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan, the presidency passes peacefully through open and free elections without the participation of the incumbent. 16 candidates participated in the presidential election.

The primary leaders of the race were - acting Prime Minister Almazbek Atambaev, who temporarily resigned to take part in the race, former Secretary of State Adahan Madumarov, and former head of the Ministry of Emergencies of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchibek Tashiev.

According to the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Tuigunaly Abdraimov, which he made on October 31, 2011, there will be no second round of presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. Currently, data from more than 95% of polling stations are processed, and show that 62.8% of citizens voted for A. Atambaev. In second place with 14.9% is the leader of the "United Kyrgyzstan" party, A. Madumarov, and third with 14.4% - the head of the "Ata-Jurt" party, K. Tashiev. The final results will be announced after protocol originals will be brought from all the territorial election commissions.
